Kubert School Rowena Morrill Art Class
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on April 19 on the Variant Stage
The Joe Kubert Shool will be offering a brilliant, new twist to a foundational art class. This year, at NYCC, 15 lucky up-and-coming artists will get a chance to be instructed by a Kubert super-star fantasy illustrator, Rowena Morrill as they sketch a live model…right in the middle of the convention! Fan-artists will submit a sample of their artwork and a 25 word essay on why they feel figure drawing is important for a comic book artist today. Fifteen lucky fans will be selected, and asked to bring their pencils and pads to the center arena Saturday from noon to 1:00. Lucky fans will hope to get discovered by editors and publishers! Kubert School instructor Rowena will be the "art teacher" for this unique figure drawing experience. Rowena is one of the best known names in the world of science-fiction and fantasy illustration. For over 20 years, her paintings have appeared on hundreds of book covers, on calendars, portfolios, trading cards and in magazines such as Playboy and Omni. Famed genre model Niki Notarile will be the live model. Unlike traditional art class models, Niki will be striking poses for our sketchers clad in full Super-Heroine outfits!
To apply for a spot in the Joe Kubert School Art Class, send a short essay and sample of your work to ptatara@reedexpo.com. All e-mails must be received by April 14.
