Emerging Leaders Par-Tay
Had a great shindig at The Woods last night for the ABA Emerging Leaders Group. I gotta say, when I pulled up to this random strip mall in Hollywood and saw the bar wedged between a liquor store and a Laundromat, I was skeptical, but the place was awesome. Kitschy, cool, intimate and a great jukebox to boot.....
I got to reconnect with some bookseller buddies and meet some of the authors on hand. Particularly cool was talking with Tony O'Neill author of Down and Out on Murder Mile who used to live right in the L.A. neighborhood back when he had a hard core dug habit (he even used to come to the very bar we were in when it was under a different name!). He fled L.A., cleaned up and wrote a novel. Needless to say his experiences in L.A. we quite different from any that the rest of us at The Woods would be having! He was going around to his old haunts today and creating a book trailer for his forthcoming title. Pretty cool idea......
Cold drinks, cool bar and interesting people. What more would I want out of my Wednesday night at BEA?
