eBooks, Lit Bloggers, Streaming Video - BEA Grows Up

We here at BookExpo have a long history of naming things for what they are, not because it sounds good. For example, the Hot Show of 2007 was really about the fact the the hall was 85 degrees and I won't even mention the Author Explosion promotion that was tried in the early 90's....

The latest in a line of bad names but good ideas is the New Media Zone we've built on the show floor at BookExpo this year. It's near the 3100 aisle smack dab int he middle of the show floor. Why is the experience better than the name?

  • Lit Bloggers get free Internet access to blog live from the show
  • Sony and Amazon will have demo stations for their respective e reading devices
  • Borders.com will have a studio and doing streaming author interviews for Borders.com (as will one other major online book retailer)
  • The BookExpo Cast podcast studio is located here
  • Aptara, DNAML, Endless Ideas, Ingram, Libre Digital and Overdrive will all have space to show off their latest innovations
  • The International Digital Publishing Form (idpf) will host Live Executive Summaries Friday and Saturday May 10-11 Downtown Stage from Overdrive, Amazon, Sony, Libre Digital, Endless Ideas, DNAML and Ingram Digital.
  • Did I mention the free Internet for Lit Bloggers?

Will there be a corresponding "Old Media Zone"? Scribes from various cultures, demonstrations on the production of papyrus and paper, various sewn bindings, demonstrations on the proper operation of books...

Do you keep calling it "The New Media Zone"? "New New Media"? "New Media 2.0"? "New and Improved New Media"? "Brand Spanking New Media"? "Brave New Media" (hosted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security)?
