Comic Studies Conference at C2E2

C2E2 will feature a lot of panels and a lot of screenings. We'll have presentations by Marvel and DC, we'll have talks about Golden and Silver Age creators, and have glimpses at movies and TV shows months before their premieres -- but we'll have something more, too. Beyond all the fun at our cons, we're always proud to present an academic track -- educational panels that give back and fill out attendees with something (other than swag) that they'll take home with them.

This year, though, we're proud to do more than just host an academic track. The first C2E2 is working with the Institute for Comics Studies to launch the Comics Studies Conference. Taking place in conjunction with C2E2, the CSC will promote the study, understanding, recognition, and cultural legitimacy of comics and support the discussion and dissemination of this study and understanding.

If you're a librarian, professor, teacher, or scholarly fan, the Comics Studies Conference wants to hear from you. The CSC invites proposals for scholarly presentations, book talks, slide talks, roundtables, professional-focus panels, workshops and other panels centered on sequential art and comics in any form (graphic novels, comic strips, comic books, manga, web comics, etc.), comics-centric works, or adaptations of comics materials, genres, or figures into other media for its first annual meeting, held in conjunction with C2E2.

Proposals that concern comics produced in or otherwise connected to Chicago, and proposals by Chicago-area faculty, scholars, and comics professionals are especially encouraged.

The CSC proposal deadline is December 1. Sumbit proposals online here.
