Hey Lance,
I was one of the lucky ones who was able to score Jedi Knight CV VIP Package. My major complaint about how this ordering of the VIP was handle by Reed. No where on the e-mail that was sent out to 4 days tickets holders on 3-23-10 that there will be an e-mail sent to you on the day of the sale with the proper link to order the tickets. I knew that I would have just keep refreshing my inbox for that e-mail.
At noon time, I used the link click HERE link on the 3-23 e-mail numerous times to order the VIP. I even call customer service about the ordering and they told me the Jedi Master VIP was sold out. I keep clicking the link on the 3-23 e-mail and nothing stating it was available or even sold out. After getting off the phone with customer service. I just happen to check my inbox and there was an e-mail address to me from inquiry@starwarscelebration.com letting me know to that I can order the VIP tickets and to my surprise when I clicked on the link in that e-mail to buy tickets. It allow me to order the package. I called my friend who also order the 4 day and was also trying to order his VIP upgrade tickets base on the e-mail he also received on the 23rd of March. However when he seen his e-mail in the inbox and tried it. It was to late. So now I am able to attend as a VIP but my friend can’t.
I am almost certain that I am not the only one who ran across this problem in ordering the tickets.
I just hope when NYCC comes around there will be a better way to order VIP tickets without misleading e-mails.
Regards, William
Lance,
My wife and I are huge fans of STAR WARS, but are not huge fans of the STAR WARS CelebrationV VIP package sales process. The information provided by the website indcated that ticket purchasers and newsletter subscribers would be notified of an upcoming 24-hour purchasing period offered prior to public sales of the VIP tickets. Instead, ticket purchasers and newsletter subscribers received an email stating "buy now!" with no notification of a start time. With few tickets on sale and varying e-mailbox processing speeds this method was no better than a public sales release of the tickets. Subsequently we were not able to respond quick enough even though we were monitoring our e-mailbox. Our "only hope" is that an extra set of VIP tickets for both tiers will go on sale in the future. May the FORCE be with us.
I hated the notification process, but was lucky enough to be sitting at my desk when the email came across.
I must have been the first to get a Jedi Master upgrade, I was clicking so fast. At the time, my wife wasn't so interested in the upgrade. After lunch, it was too late! Wow, I knew they'd go fast. The Force was strong with me.
So now, while I'm at the front, she'll be at the back. Just the opposite of DragonCon!
This is our first Celebrations, really looking forward to it.
But it looks like I'll be going solo (no pun intended) in the lounge and other VIP treats. So if there's any other singles out there, especially if you're the only one in a group with a VIP ticket, drop me a note.
There's obviously not that many of us.
I'm glad Carrie Fisher is coming. Beyond Star Wars, I love her writing, and we're related (which was cool in high school). Her mother and my grandfather are cousins. Never met Ms. Fisher... just saying-- still counts. Well, counted.
My wife and I usually go to the writing workshops and panels, and aren't the dress-up types, but this is CV, who knows.
See, this is the thing that killed me about the notification process. It stated no where in this e-mail that was sent to me from SWCV about waiting for an e-mail notification in order to buy the tickets. Here is a copy and paste of the text from the 3-23 e-mail sent to me about ordering the VIP tickets. I was sitting at my laptop from 11:30 am ready to obtain the VIP ticket.

As anyone who read this text doesn't state anywhere wait for an e-mail notification. All it had was clickable links to buy the vip upgrades at 12pm EST. I am lucky enough to get to the VIP stuff but my friend who was also mis-lead by the same e-mail he gotten mis out after I was lucky enough to check my inbox after I call customer service to complain about not being able to order the package at 12:11pm.
They really just needed to just make the link live from any e-mail they sent weather it was from the 3-23 notice or todays notice.
I thought they really drop the ball on this.
I am looking forward to meeting Carrie Fisher. I hope they bring in Mark Hammill and I know it is a long shot Harrision Ford. Since most of celebrities now have con managers handling their bookings and one website that I ran across has Ford on their client list.
William
I hear you guys loud and clear and sincere apologies if it was not a flawless process. William, send me a note (lfensterman at reedexpo dot com) MarDar I think I just sent you an email asking for a few points of clarification.
Again apologies if the process was not perfect, we do want to serve you the best we can and appreciate the feedback. In the end though, we clearly had a massive demand for a very limited supply.

Hey Lance,
Thanks for your quick response. I haven't recieve an e-mail from you or it hasn't shown up in my inbox yet.
I will write you from my hotmail address that I use as my primary e-mail.
Regards, William
As ticket purchasers and newsletter subscribers, we never received the 3/23 email that 'William' posted above (important content I include below). Therefore, we never knew the specific date or time when the VIP tickets were to go on sale. The only things we knew were the details of the packages and that a notice of the purchase date & time possibly was posted on 3/23 or was forthcoming. We desperately tried to get help through the contact sources: 3-times by phone and 2-times by email, but the suggestions and information provided was never truly helpful.
However, we did attempt to monitor our emailbox as best we could. The start-time and briefness of the sale was not on our side. Once we received the 3/30 notice we acted with Jedi like speed but in the end the FORCE was not with us.
KEY INFO we did not know in advance of the 3/30 sale is pasted from the 'William' post below:
Because you have already purchased a Celebration V badge, you will have the first opportunity to purchase a VIP Package. VIP packages will go on sale here at 12:00 PM EST on March 30, 2010. You will have 24 hours to purchase your VIP Package before the sale is announced to the general public.
Willy Wonka only allowed 5 Golden Tickets so that the event would be truly special.
C4 had like 35,000 attendees, what do you want, 5,000 VIPs? How special would that be for that kind of money.
I'm going and I'm going to have a blast. Geeks among geeks, united around a common theme.
I was pissed off for 2 hours, now I've just got more money in my pocket.
I hope the Knights and the Masters have an awesome experience, I know I will.
Greed, jealousy-- a Jedi craves not these things.
(But Reed Group-- don't screw this up. Please. We'll be watching for next year.)
Hi Lance,
I did the same thing with the original email. I kept clicking that link over, and over, and over, and nothing happened. In the end, I saw the new email and grabbed the Jedi Knight Package on the tail end of the sale (I'm talking minutes to spare). I was lucky. I had wanted to go VIP ever since Steve announced CV in July, so I was very excited to get one. I think it could have been more clear in the beginning, but I dont see it as a major mess-up. I think it was nice to give the ticket holders the first chance at these. Wonder how long it will take us to get a refund on those original tickets?
We are all going to have fun, I can sense it in the Force. All the best.
I too have to say, the process was far from perfect and left a lot to be desired. My friend and I were both on the phone to each other trying the link from the March 23rd e-mail starting at 11:45 AM EST. It didn't work even after 12:00 PM. Then my friend received his e-mail with the new link in it and I didn't. He received it at 12:04 PM EST. I did not receive my e-mail until 12:14 PM EST. By that time the Jedi Master package (one I really wanted) was gone. I had to go with the Jedi Knight one. I'm just glad I got that one based on all the other comments. His e-mail address started with an A and mine had an R. I believe part of the problem was due to the fact that there were probably so many e-mails sent out by the vendor, that it took a long time to get them all out. Oh well, guess they will learn better next time. It was a very confusing process I have to say.
My email starts with a D and I got mine at 12:07 EST.
Alphabetical order-- the horror, the horror.
Guess there will be a lot of new email addresses for CVI.
Wow. If the Jedi Master tickets were gone at 12:14, I must have got the last one. My email came at 12:13. I feel really lucky now.
Let me try this one more time without typos...trying to sound logical here, but can't since I seem to be pretty affected by how this was handled...
Again apologies if the process was not perfect, we do want to serve you the best we can and appreciate the feedback. In the end though, we clearly had a massive demand for a very limited supply.,
Heh, definitely FAR FROM PERFECT process. I agree with what everybody has said here. I really don't like being given the WRONG advice about the VIP upgrade by your customer service. I was originally told that the VIP badges could be ordered via the phone, but when I called I was told that they had to be ordered online, which was impossible for me since I was traveling at the time and not near a computer. Thank the Force that I called my girlfriend to order my upgrade since she was trying to order hers. Unfortunately, she submitted my upgrade before hers and I got the VIP upgrade, but she did not.
Please, please, for the love of Yoda, get your instructions and information straight, not only internally with your customer service center, but also online for ordering items of this nature. So far, I've had nothing but an awful experience every time I call your customer service center.
I'm trying real hard to not let this jade my CV experience and hope that you guys and LFL deliver as it concerns the money spent on these upgrades. And by the way, when can I expect my refund for the original purchase order of my 4-day badge? Again, NO instructions or information about that...
Hey Lance,
I am just curious if you received my e-mail I sent to you the other day. It was sent from my hotmail e-mail address.
I am also wondering how long will it take for the refund for my original order will take. Since as per March 23rd e-mail after I order my VIP upgrade. I e-mail Reed on requesting the refund of my original order that was place on 12-09.
Regards, William
Hi William, yup, I got your email. We are reviewing every situation....
-L
A few people asked about refunds - in our ticketing system all refunds that had been requested due to an upgrade were processed. It may take a few more days for this to reflect on your card though.

Lance,
Thanks!

What a disappointment!!! My husband have signed up for the newsletter, and were not given an email of notification that the VIP tickets were going to go on sale!! It seems the people who managed to "SCORE" tickets are friends of the organizers of this mess!! If this is a sign on how celebration is going to go... you all are in a heap of trouble! What would happen if the THOUSANDS OF FANS called these so called front seater people.... the white folk as the black folk sit in the back, not given an opportunity to prove worthy!!
This crap of VIP for select people is ridiculous, and show the capability of this NEw York company is NOT that right people to handle this convention... you are not dealing with stupid people here folks... so get your game face on! You are going to hear alot more comments as people come back from their Easter vacations and find you screwed them... AGAIN!!
I agree with the comments above. This is not something that can be passed over with a stupid comment like "we had a massive demand for a limited supply"... what a cop out for taking responsibility of a major mess.
We are passionate fans, not afraid to stand outside in shorts in 32 degree weather to see Lucas in the middle of the night... and you think that giving an email notice was sufficient and acceptable?
THINK AGAIN!!!
You all have a major dilemma on your hands... and this is not going to get any prettier. What were you thinking? Did a Jedi wiped your minds or what?
Who ended up getting all of these tickets anyway???? Friends of yours is just not fair!!!
We the fans are furious!!!!!!
What do you mean the tickets are sold out? There was NOTHING on the website indicating there was going to be a sale so soon!
We signed up for the newsletter, and did not get an email like others did... why not, and why not post on the website? It has not been updated in MONTHS and now it says SOLD OUT?!?!?
Who do you think you are?
Glad that SOME of us were given the opportunity.
What is this mess of ... massive demand for a limited supply... that is not explaining why the process FAILED.
You made a mistake, better fess up and be honest that you screwed up fans' opportunity to but these tickets!!!
Wow, so many padawans screaming outrage.
There were only a handful of tickets. There was no way everyone who wanted one was going to get one, no matter the proccess.
Go and have a good time. This about Star Wars. Why even bother to go if your going to be pissed off? Stay home and watch Star Trek.
It is a pretty viable excuse; there were 300 tickets for 35,000 people. I received the email on March 23rd stating they would go on sale March 30th. I dont understand why some didnt. To my understanding, only people that purchased tickets and were signed up for the newsletter received that email. I purchased my 4-day pass on the day they went on sale, so I received an email.
The process was a little broken. It wasnt clearly stated how they would go on sale, and it threw many off. But in all actuality, there was a huge demand for just a few tickets. I think it was a good idea to give ticket holders the chance to purchase the VIP tickets first. Of course, it would have been nice to give Hyperspace Members the heads up as well, but, this is Reed's first time doing Celebration, so mistakes will be made.
I understand where they stand. I kind of thought the way it went down with the VIP tickets was done on purpose, so that select people would catch on and get the tickets. Maybe it wasnt the best way, but 300 people get to go VIP, and they will have a great time. Even if you dont get to go VIP, it will still be a great time; its Star Wars.
